IS IT TIME TO TRY A TRENCH?
The trench coat dates back pre-World War 1, when it was designed as an alternative to the heavy greatcoat that Army officers wore. It was adapted to be worn in the trenches, hence where the trench coat got its name.
Spring is in full swing and Summer is not far off, but unpredictable temperatures mean that when it comes to Britain in the Summertime, it always pays to be prepared.
Whilst the sun has greeted us on several occasions already this season, it still isn’t quite warm enough to venture out without a coat (or an umbrella for that matter!) There are several chic outerwear options to consider to keep you warm and stylish whilst we wait for the temperatures to really heat up…
We’re almost four weeks into 2017 and along with the influx of ‘SALE’ and ‘MONEY OFF’ emails, we’re also seeing lots of ‘NOTHING NEW’ messages; people who are shying away from the shops and instead vowing to buy no new clothes, some for up to a year (take a look at one of our favourite sites The Women’s Room for their recent post on this here.)
You may have heard the statistic that most of us wear 20% of our clothes 80% of the time; we get into the habit of reaching for the same items time and again, leaving clothes lurking at the back of the wardrobe (some with their labels still on), never to see the light of day.
David Bowie was Ziggy Stardust, Aladdin Sane, The Thin White Duke, A dapper gentleman and a style icon throughout his career. He was unarguably fashion’s king of self-invention. As well as being a musical genius, he was the ultimate rule breaker continually re-inventing, innovating and challenging our pre-conceptions of fashion.
Bowie changed his style more dramatically than any other musician in history. His transformations brought about seismic cultural shifts, changing the definition of what it meant to be a popular rock star. For Bowie clothes were a way of projecting self-expression, a powerful tool in communicating individuality at its most extreme, glittering and creative.
We may not want to be as extreme as David Bowie in our approach to fashion, but do you ever feel you favour the same old way of dressing and get a little bored with how you look? So let’s rip up that rule book – ready, set, reverse!
